Our trainer, Jz Conrad, holds a degree in Biology with a focus on ecology and wildlife. Their interests in feline behavior has lead them to a career in the pet industry and research for nearly 16+ years. As a master level cat groomer they also approach coat and skin wellness as a critical care element. Many times  grooming and behaviors can overlap.

What is Lima?

Sweet Whiskers continues to strive to offer excellent, trustworthy expert cat care that you can trust. That extends beyond the grooming salon into your homes. In order to help our feline friends in the most comprehensive way that means our actions need to be as minimally averse to them as possible, and when and where possible the least intrusive methods.

We strongly believe in offering autonomy and consent whenever and wherever possible. We focus our strategies on positive reinforcement of desired behaviors, focusing on your cats well-being both mentally and physically. 

Continuing Education 

At Sweet Whiskers we are serious about staying current with the most scientifically proven methodology. Gaining the perspective of what's best practices for our feline friends based on sound psychological influences and ensuring we bring in ethical and humane approaches to our cat training and behavioral guidance. 

We are a part of the Pet Professional Guild which promotes ongoing education and provides professional access to academic papers as well as ongoing training via webinars and events. 

We are currently attending a certification program for training specifically. While we have done many years worth of behavioral training and consultation work we believe in leading by example within our industry. That means stepping up and gaining accreditation and certifications to help keep consultants accountable and connected. 

Transparency policy

Transparency has always been a core value trait with Sweet Whiskers. Whether that's admitting we don't know the answer to your question, referring you to someone more skilled, or telling you directly (but kindly) that it's you causing the problem, not the cat. 

We know sometimes transparency can come across as blunt or off putting to some, and to others it'll shine as a comfort to know exactly how you and your pet will be treated. That said we would like to take this time to tell you what transparency means to us:

  • We will have difficult conversations with owners for the good of the cat. 

  • We do not permit abuse and will absolutely speak up on this. 

  • We respect the rights of clients to make final decisions for their cats training. 

  • We do not discriminate on the basis of age, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, any disability, gender, sexual orientation, political or religious beliefs. 

  • We will seek consent for use filming your cats inside of your home.

  • We do not guarantee any specific outcome behaviorally for your cat in exchange of payment

  • We agree to be open and honest about pricing structure in advance of commitment so all parties are fully informed entering an assessment contract. â€‹

  • We agree to offer a variety of resources to the client to tap into and try and offer at least one low cost or free option among those.

  • We will work within our personal and professional education and expertise.

  • When we are not skilled enough to do a consultation job, we will let you know and refer to another qualified cat behaviorist. 

  • We do not subcontract out our services and you can expect to work with an active team member at Sweet Whiskers. 

  • All Sweet Whiskers staff are trained in CPR and First aid, at all times. 

  • We will have difficult conversations with owners for the good of the cat. 

  • We do not permit abuse, cruelty or neglect of animals (any species, not just our feline friends).

  • We do stay current on laws that inform on course of action in case of bites or suspected abuse of animals.

What education and or certifications does this groomer have? or are pursing currently?
While grooming isn't necessarily a regulated field requiring a degree to get into... it is a field that allows you to see a wide variety of talents and skills. Since there are no licensing requirements it is imperative that owners take it in their own hands to research who they are trusting their kitty with!
